Start Planning

Cremation has the same options as a burial. At the end of a service, instead of going to a cemetery, your loved one goes to a crematory. Having a service, can be an important part of the grieving process and allows family and friends to honor a loved one and say good bye, in their own special way.

Many families choose a direct cremation and arrange for a service on their own. Not only is the service planned by someone with intimate knowledge of the person’s life, which tends to create a more personal gathering, it saves families money. This savings allows families to purchase cremation merchandise for permanent storage of cremains. Here are types of cremation services available to you.

Traditional Cremation Service

A traditional cremation service is like a traditional burial service, except cremation will follow instead of internment at a cemetery. A traditional service, usually has a visitation for public viewing and a service within a few days of the death.

The service is held at the funeral home or a church and is led by member of clergy, family member or friend. This can include scripture reading, sermon, eulogy or life stories. A cremation casket or rental casket is used and can be opened or closed during visitation.

Following the traditional cremation service, the cremation will take place and, the cremated remains can be returned to the family, interred at a cemetery or scattered at sea.

A memorial service with cremains present, allows family and friends to gather and honor the life of the a loved one, without the body present. An urn would be present at the memorial service and it can be held at the funeral home, a church, or any place that is meaningful such as a park, beach or other reception area.

Following the memorial service with cremains present, the cremated remains are returned to the family, interred at a cemetery or scattered at sea.
